The Right Of Left Trail - Junk Or Treasure

Looking online is easy. The sites are vast that will have many parts that you need. Your most difficult task will be finding the sight that will become your favorite. Bookmark a few that are appealing to you after visiting them so you know where to find them again.

One of the classic stories about my dad is his first vehicle. Because his mom certainly could not afford to buy him a car, and the money he made on side jobs and summer employment was not going to get him a car, he got very crafty. He went to the 1997 dodge intrepid, bought four junk vehicles, and took the good parts to form one working vehicle. Every time he needed maintenance done, he would go to the junkyard and either find the part in good condition or refurbish a semi-decent part. Through all this work, he became very good at truck repair, which made him very proud. He tells stories about cruising around town with his brother in tow like the two of them were the president and vice president in this beat up old Ford.

Choose a yard. You should have two or three offers for your car. Determine which offer you will accept and make arrangements to dispose of your car. You'll need to sign over the lien to the junk yard and receive payment for your vehicle. If your vehicle is worthless, the salvage company may tow it away for free.



When fixing up a vehicle, there are some parts that no longer work and need to be tossed out. Instead of putting them in the trash, take these items to be recycled. Even if they are not worth a lot of money, some money is better than getting nothing for putting the pieces in the trash.

Eliminate toxic substances. Many times toxins are left in the garage- old paint, harsh cleaners, bug repellents, old garden/lawn sprays and fertilizers, etc. Take one afternoon to gather all the old toxins and research how to recycle them properly. Try looking on recycling resource websites your local city or village website.

2) If you do not have a salvage yard near you, or if you do not want to travel out to one, will the business ship the part to you? Be sure to compare the price of the used part + shipping to the price of a new part to make sure you're making the best decision!

Notes: Saw a whole heap of old tires at the scrap yard. scrap yard will pay me to remove their old tires. Find out what mines would pay to stabilize mine dumps.

Know exactly what you need before you go. Know the make and the model of your car, and any car that also used those parts if possible. Some things are used for more than one, like radios, for example.
